Department Information
We are currently in the process of updating our information for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year.
Dress
• Students are required to change clothes for P.E. for hygiene reasons
• Crew neck T-shirt, shorts, sweat/wind pants, sweatshirt, and lace up athletic shoes are required
• All clothing must adhere to the HCS dress code policy
• Spiritwear is available for purchase and may be worn for PE
Jewelry
• Jewelry can be lost, broken or cause injury to the student or to other students. Therefore, it is recommended that
all jewelry be removed before participating in physical education activities.
• Jewelry that can cause injury to another student MUST be removed (rings can scratch, dangling earrings can rip ear lobes, large medallions on heavy chains can chip teeth, etc.)
• New piercings must be covered with a Band-Aid (to be supplied by the student) or removed.
• The teacher, the school and Hampton City Schools are not responsible for lost, stolen or broken jewelry.
Injury/Illness
• Students who are ill or injured must provide a parent note and/or doctors note to be excused from full participation
• Activity will be changed or modified to accommodate the injured student. Students will be engaged in some form of activity and should be prepared with appropriate clothing.
• Parent notes are good for 3 consecutive days. After 3 days a Doctor’s note must be provided
• Parents are encouraged to contact the child’s teacher and/or the school nurse with any concerns they may have about their child’s participation.
Grading
All grades are divided into 3 categories:
Participation 50%
Tests/Quizzes 30%
Homework/Misc. 20%
Students will have quizzes, tests (skill and written), homework, and other classwork assignment (ex. projects, peer assessments) in both P.E. and Health.
Students can earn 100 points per class for participation. Failure to dress out for class with result in total loss of points for that day.
Student Expectations
Students are expected to follow all class rules and policies in accordance with the Hampton City Schools student handbook. This includes but is not limited to, coming prepared to class with the proper materials and being an active participant in all physical education and health activities.
General consequences for non-compliance are as follows:
1st offense warning
2nd offense parent contact and detention assigned
3rd offense administrative referral
